Our Trip to Palmyra, NYWhile Bart had a short Fall Break from classes, we were able to go on a fun trip to Palmyra with Bart's parents. We had such a fun time. I was a little nervous taking a 5-week old baby on a 7-hour road trip, across three states, but she did great. I was thankful that everyone was being patient as we stopped every few hours so Whitney could eat. Now, she is totally trained to be zonked OUT whenever she gets in the car. Is that good or bad? I know some of you are probably totally shocked that I took my brand-new baby to places where there could possibly be germs. Don't worry- I was totally paranoid about it the entire time. I'm sure my in-laws got a kick out of that. It was a lot of fun to be with Steve and Marsha... THANKS for showing us a wonderful time. We loved it!

We first stopped in Hiram, Ohio at the Johnson Farm. What a neat feeling there was at this site. This is where Joseph & Emma Smith lived for a short time. This is the room where revelation concerning heaven was received.

Then we hopped in the car and started driving to Palmyra, NY. On the way I saw REAL-LIFE AMISH people. That has always been a dream of mine. Oh, how I wanted to stop and have a one-on-one Barbara Walters interview with them, but there was no time.

When we got to Palmyra, we stayed 2 nights at a FANCY Motel. No Whitney didn't sleep in this drawer the whole time. But it was the perfect fit for our little dolly.

The next morning we woke up and visited the Hill Cumorah. There was such a neat feeling at this site. It is absolutely beautiful there.

We then went directly to the Sacred Grove. This is somewhere I have ALWAYS wanted to visit. It was so peaceful and beautiful. What a testimony builder it was. I am so thankful for the Faith of Joseph Smith and the restored Gospel. It was especially neat to be there with my husband and Whitney. I am so thankful for Eternal Families. Whitney was SO good at the Sacred Grove. She woke up temporarely for these pictures, and then fell right back to sleep. Such a good little girl.

Steve, Bart, Whitney and Marsha in the Smith family log cabin.

These are pictures of what the Smith Family home would have looked like. It is built on the same foundation as the original.

This is where the first 5,000 Books of Mormon were published.

Here is the Whitmer home where the first General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was held.

On our way home, we stopped for a short while at Niagra Falls. This was my first time at the falls. Talk about a lot of water.

That is awesome you got to go all those places!!! I did a trip like that with my family a few years back and I remember all the feelings I had as I looked at your pictures -- i esp. loved teh sacred grove too -- and i am always amazed that whenever i see people's pictures it looks exactly as i imagined - with the sun coming through the trees - so beautiful and green and brings back so many good memories! I love that place -- and what a good baby!!! We have a good little traveler too -- if you guys ever want to take another trip and come to VA and the DC stuff -- come stay with us!!! we would love to have you!

What a fun trip. I picked mom and dad up at the airport last night, and they said that they had a great time. I wish I could have been there to cuddle the little baby. I love her little bed in the hotel. You could have saved a lot of money that way... you don't even need a crib.
Krista... I was meaning to call you on Saturday. I hope that you had a good birthday. You got to love the CHEESE CAKE FACTORY...

One more thing that I forgot...Krista you look good. I am so jealous. You are smaller then me again, and you just had a baby. Way to go...You will have to tell me your secret.

Oh this brings back so many memories. I love this place! There is such a special spirit there. I don't know about you but I felt like I knew so much more about church history from that trip. Cute baby! I love the sleeping in a drawer thing.

Actually-I was thinking you were being a good new mom for taking Whitney on such a long trip. It's good for newborns to be moved around a bit in the beginning. I wish I had done that more with Katelyn, but I was too scared.

Looks like you guys had a blast! We took Camilla to Wahington DC when se was 2 1/2 months old. Very nerve racking. I worried about the germs and stuff too. The picture of the drawer is so funny. It reminded me of our flight to DC. Read eye flight, so when Camilla went to sleep, we used the food try as a crib. It worked great! Take care!

Ps I just tagged Krista on my blog.
