In Utah...
So, we've been settled here in the great valley, for almost 2 months. In some ways it has gone by so quickly. In other ways, it's been really long. There are some unexpected things about moving, and being "straight out of dental school." For instance, nobody really explained to me HOW poor we would be at first. When you're IN school, you can push a button on the computer and get more money. When you're not in school, and have yet to work, that button no longer works.
Starting out in the real world is scary. Exciting? No. It's scary. Everything is bigger. Bigger bills, bigger houses, bigger expectations and bigger realities.
It's not that I'd want to be living the student life forever. It's just a change that seems to be taking a while to get used so. I'm not big on changes.
At night, when Whitney prays she usually always says something like, "Bless us to go back to Ohio. Bless Jadyn to be happy." It's very sweet and a little sad. She wants friends so badly. Luckily, we've been able to hang out with some of our good friends who live here. She just wants one of those neighbors who lives two-doors-down and where she can go and play every single day.
We've had so many blessings on this journey. We are grateful for supportive family, genuine friends and a beautiful place to live. I am still in awe of these huge gorgeous mountains. I didn't appreciate them when I was in college. I really didn't. There have been many sweet moments when I step outside and look to the East and see them. My breath has literally been taken away when I see how beautiful they are. I am also so grateful to live in a place where the sun is usually shining- and people are quite kind and friendly.
My New Year's resolutions included to be better about my daily scripture study. I can feel the peace this brings into my life and the perspective it gives me. I am trying to be a more patient mother, a more encouraging wife and a better member of His Church. I don't usually use my blog as a 'platform' to share my feelings about my Savior, but today I will.
I am so grateful for the peace and joy I have by being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I believe it's true. I know I have a loving Heavenly Father who is very aware of me personally. I know He has a son, Jesus Christ, who lived and died for me. I know he Atoned for me personally. I know by following His commandments, I will not only be happy, but I will show Him my love for Him. I also know that we continue to have a living prophet who can help us if we listen to his counsel. I am grateful for the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I know by following their teachings, we can become more like our Savior.
It seems when times are tricky and difficult, we learn more about ourselves and I feel like I can better appreciate my blessings.
Last Thursday, while driving on the freeway with my two kids in the back seat, I was side-swipped by a guy who hit-and-ran. Surprisingly enough, I stayed calm, memorized his license number and was able to contact Highway Patrol. I was sad that the entire right side of our "new" car was dented and scratched. BUT, more than anything, I am so grateful for our safety and that both of my kids were un-harmed. It was a little miracle that let me know I am being watched over.
I also am beyond thankful for my two kids and my husband. Through all of this crazy, stressful, busy time- my family has been a constant joy and support. Oh, surely we all have our moments of time-outs, crazy antics and frustrations. But nothing is sweeter than being together and having a good laugh.
So... onward to the next few weeks and months of our journey...
At ONE year..
Our little MacKay Carlisle can:
*Say a few words, "Ba" (ball) "Mama" (which either means me, or he wants his bottle), "Ba-ba" (bottle), "Hi!", "Uh Oh"
*Claps, waves hi & goodbye, blows kisses, How big is MacKay? SO BIG
*Loves music, singing to any song, dancing at any given moment
*Starting to back away from his furniture and stand for a few seconds at a time
*Has 8 teeth. Four on top & four on bottom.
*Takes 1-2 naps a day.
*Sleeps 10-12 hours at night. (Started waking up to go #2 at night... ugh.)
*Loves to crawl very fast, jump, climb and move, move, move.
*Is usually good about going to any old stranger. Is starting to become more clingy to Mama.
*Loves to give big wet, open-mouthed kisses.
*Makes a pretty cute scowl.
*Loves to imitate any noise.
*Favorite toys are cars and balls. He likes to "drive" cars around and make the "vrrrrrrroooooom" sound as he does it.
*Doesn't like to sit still anymore.
*Loves his big sister.
*Favorite "toy" is the staircase. Is starting to learn how to go down on his own.
*Will go and discover things on his own.
*Laughs very hard.
*Loves bath-time and will stand at the bath or shower if anyone is in it and whine to get inside.
*Loves stroller rides (as long as we keep moving), being outside (even if it's super chilly), being around kids.
*Likes to eat: chicken nuggets, oatmeal, fries, rolls, beef, chicken, beans, corn, veggie sticks, baby foods, and ice cream. He also LOVES chocolate.
*He still loves his binkie and bottle. Would drink about 40 oz a day, if we let him. We are weaning him to 3 bottles a day... and it's tough. Hopefully, we'll be bottle-free in 6 months. Hey, at least it's not formula.
*Is just about the sweetest boy.
We love you MacKay. You are a sweet addition to our family. You are so "CONTAIN-A-FUL", as Whitney calls you.

Bubba Turns ONE!
What do you do when you turn one? Head down to BYU to get your first taste of the Creamery on Ninth East. After visiting the Bean Science Museum with Benson, Stuart and Meg, we decided to have lunch at the CONE. Bubba enjoyed his first hamburger while Whitney and Benson had the time of their lives drinking soda pop.
Not sure, but do you think these two have fun together? Watch out BYU Freshman year...
these two may be up to some major pranking.
After we headed home, little MacKay and Whitney both took some much needed naps. And MacKay decided to climb the stairs. It's one of his favorite activities.
I also took the traditional "number on the door" pictures. Lucky for us, we live in Utah- and it's sunny on most days. (After living in Seattle and Columbus, I don't take this for granted.)
And Bubba had his picture taken...
Big Sister was in the house screaming at the top of her lungs during this photo shoot. Then we went to the playground in our backyard. Whitney continued to scream because MacKay got the swing she wanted. But I didn't care, and neither did Bubba. It was all about HIM on this very special day..
Not sure what he's enjoying more... the fact that he's got the swing or that it's upsetting Sister so much..
Back to the front for a brother-sister picture...
Loves his bottle..
And his nudies...
And for the LAST pictures with the Lion. It was hard because he wasn't in the mood for this photo-shoot.
I've got to re-take these.. it's a project I'm working on...
Daddy came home just in time to have a cake (basketball cake) and this boy LOVED LOVED LOVED it...
Oh, my sweet boy. You are too cute.
Happy Birthday sweet boy. Life with you is wonderful.
Here you are in your little glow-worm bili-lights. Thank you for coming to our family.

Christmas 2011
This was a very magical Christmas for our sweet Whitney. She ran into our bedroom around 7 am and said to me, "Mom! Let's go see if Santa came last night!"
Well, he did. He even ate those chocolate chip cookies and drank the milk she left out. He brought her a doll house, puzzles, little dollies for her house, fruit snacks, gum, books, melty beads and crafting things. When she opened up her toys she would say expressions like, "Look! Santa KNOWS I like fruit snacks!"
There really is magic in believing. It's such a special time- and I'm so glad we get to experience this with our kids.
MacKay slept through Christmas morning, and we made it to church at 9 am.
Upon our arrival back to the house, Whitney and her cousins got to play with some of her toys (crafts) before getting ready for Grandma/Grandpa Paxton's house.
Sadly enough, I FORGOT my camera on Christmas night. These were the only pics I got of that special day. And even MORE sad... it was MacKay's first Christmas, and I only snapped one bad picture on my cell.
We had a lovely day and evening and it was very neat to be able to share this time with both of our families.
Merry Christmas 2011!!!
