Newborn days... Jase

Life with a newborn is so sweet.  What a neat time it is to have a new little Spirit in our home.  It's so hard to document and write about having the newborn because time passes so quickly AND I feel so tired.  Jase is a sweet boy.  We all love him.  Whitney dotes over him constantly.  MacKay is so sweet to him as well.  I was worried how MacKay would handle this tricky transition, but he's been pretty good.  He will give Jase his beloved teddy bear to hold and try to share his crackers with Jase.  It's been hard for little Bubba too.  I remember when he first saw me in the hospital bed and gave me a big hug.  Then when I got home from the hospital, I'd rock MacKay in his room just before putting him down for a nap.  He would melt into my chest- and fall asleep so quickly.

I always have a hard time "losing" one baby when a new one comes.  It's a hard thing for a Mama too. I still have moments where I feel so badly for MacKay... it's hard to share your Mommy with a new sibling.  We're all getting the hang of it.

This next picture isn't glamorous to say the least.  But it's pretty much how we rolled at our place for a while.  Messy bed, baby taking over the whole thing and my room became the storage place for all things baby and children.  Breakfast and lunch were spent in this room.  The kids on the floor watching Netflix while I lay in my bed drinking a delicious fruit/veggie smoothie and toast.  (Thanks to Katy for doing so much!!!)

Now back to my Precious... Look at the little whiteheads on his nose. Those are gone now.  Babies change too quickly.  Glad I got some of these next shots to freeze him in time.

Here's my wrinkly newborn.  My Benjamin Button Baby.  Looks like a little old man, and I love it.

Jase's hands and feet and face all peeled.  Whitney's did too, but MacKay's never did.

This one is too funny:

Is Jase trying to make Bubba laugh with those crossed-eyes?

This one is my favorite... love those wrinkles..

Oh my baby Jase.  Thank you for choosing our little family.  Sorry sometimes Mommy has moments of insanity.  We're all trying our best.  I hope someday you'll be a great Missionary.  We love you.

Jase's Birth Story

I've journaled Jase's full birth story... but here's the shortened version:

Due to some unmentionable pain, I was to be induced one day before Jase's due date.  (Feb. 22).  On the morning of Thursday, February 21, 2013, the AF Hospital called me phone to tell me it was time to come on in.  Bart and I got in the car and drove down to the hospital.  Bart had to call and reschedule his patient for the morning.  My mom was home with my two older kids.

We checked in around 8 am.  I was dilated to 3-4.
By nine, I was hooked up to all the stuff.  (P.S.  remind me on the next one to tell them NOT to put the IV in my hand.  They had to re-do it.)

I was already having regular contractions (every 5-10) minutes.  I couldn't feel them, though.  So they started the pitocin.  I got my epidural around 10 am.  LOVELY!  I was pretty tired and my blood pressure started to drop.  So I got a shot of epinephrin.  Around noon, Dr. Jones, the doctor on-call, came and broke my water.  Things started progressing.  I felt like I had to pee.  I was an 8.  The nurse had me roll onto my left side to have Jase roll around.  2 minutes later I was ready to push.

By 1 pm, I was ready to start pushing.  However, the doctor wasn't there. I was pretty upset and the dumb nurse was pretty incompetent.   He finally arrived around 1:20 and our little Jase was born after a few pushes.
Bart cut the cord.
1:29 pm

Jase came out peeing on the doctor.  It was like a little fountain.  They put him on my belly.  He looked perfect.  Just perfect.  He had long little finger nails.  We held him up and I said to Bart, "He doesn't look like a Tyler, he looks like a Jase."  Those were two of the names we were considering.

I watched Bart's face as Bart was watching Jase being born.  It was so sweet.
We both cried.

That night, Bart brought the kids and my mom to the hospital.  Here is our first family picture.  I am cracking up at it right now.

My sweet boy.  Best nurser ever.

Bubba has been so sweet with him and Whitney is the perfect big sister.

Ready to go home.

Don't be fooled.  He doesn't love binkies.  He doesn't mind the car seat, though.
It snowed the whole drive home.

At home on the couch...
