On Tuesday, we decided to take a lovely, LONG drive to see the Amish. It was a beautiful drive, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. Annette was just in awe of the beauty of Ohio. She was just dying to see some 'real-life' Amish folks. When we saw our first buggy of the trip, she started screaming and pulling out her camera to take pictures.
I think the picture above has to be my favorite of the day. This is the most gorgeous little girl. Isn't she just a doll? She just looked at us as we drove by (hence the fuzzy-ness of the picture).
We first stopped in Charm at a little Amish country store. Across the street there were horses and pigs. Whitney loved that.
Then we went to the Yoder Farm. Whitney fell in love with this "kiddy" and all the other farm animals.
Part of our tour consisted of riding in this buggy:
Ready for our ride.
This is the back of Ray. He is our Amish buggy driver. He was very nice and super friendly.
This is Annette trying to get a full Barbara Walters' interview with Ray. She told him a little bit about our
Church. When I tried to give Ray a copy of the
Book of Mormon, he liked to hear about it, but wasn't quite ready for his own copy.
I'm not sure who was more obsessed with this nursing dog-
Whitney, Annette or it's FIVE young puppies.
Whitney loved these little puppies in the barn.
We were able to take a tour of the Amish homes and the barn. It was a lot of fun. At the end of the tour we had the most delicious cinnamon rolls ever. Thank you Annette for treating us!
On our tour:
Inside an Amish home:
This was the part of the tour where Whitney had enough. See those little Amish toys? Yeah, Whitney went to town on those as well as everything else in this 11-room house. Then when it was all over she just wanted "frossing" (frosting). Can you say NAP time?
The rest of these pictures were taken by Annette on our drive home. As soon as we left the Yoder Farm, Whitney crashed and slept for a full 20 minutes. Ugh! (I was hoping she'd sleep for at least 90 minutes.) She was so sick of being in the car.
Here are some cute little Amish boys.
The one on our right gave us a scowl when he saw Annette take his picture.
It was a delightful trip. We only got lost a few times, but that gave us an opportunity to meet some more Amish people on the way. We even got some black-eyed susan flowers for our yard from two very sweet Amish girls.
