Leaving from my grandparents' house early Monday morning, we drove (in LA traffic... ugh!) down to Disneyland. The kids did well. We just wanted to make it before the park opened- and we did. We had big plans to check into our hotel (Fairfield by Marriott) early, but there was NO room at the inn for early check-in. We lathered up the kids and ourselves with sunscreen, and got in line for the park. It was really exciting, actually. The lines seemed long to get into the park. I thought this was supposed to be the slow season? Truth be told, I don't think Disneyland has a slow season. Bart and I are die-hard Disney-riders. The people who are the first at the park and the last to leave... no breaks, people!
Disneyland proved to not only be the happiest place on earth, but also the hottest. The temperature was well over 100 degrees. You'll notice the sweat all over our faces as the day continues.
But what a great time we had. We got into the park and raced (no running please!) over to Tomorrow Land. Bart and Whitney went onto Space Mountain. I was a little hesitant, to put Whitney on that ride because it's can be a bit scary... AND not only that, but it was all Halloweened-up. I waited with Bubba at the exit. I watched them get on the ride. There were lots of little kids about Whitney's age who got off the ride in tears. I was expecitng the worst.
Here's a not-so-great-quality shot of Bart and Whitney on the ride:
After they got off, Bart asked Whitney, "Did you like that?"
Her reply, "Dad, I don't want to do that again!"
Hey, at least she didn't cry.
I was bummed that I didn't get to go on that ride because, it is my very favorite. Maybe next year?
We then slowed things down a bit and went on Buzz's Ride as well as those lovely rockets. The kids both LOVED the rockets.
We spent our first day at Disneyland. It was magical. I loved seeing the kids and their reactions to things. My only regret? Forgetting my hand sanitizer in the car!
Princesses: Yes, we waited about 40 minutes to see these three. It was REALLY REALLY hot!
Tiana: Bubba was SO into the Princesses. Bart said, "I hope it's because he wants to make out with them. Not because he wants to be one of them."
Every time we would see a princess he would say, "Princess!" It was pretty cute.
I'm not sure how many times we went on Small World. Whitney and MacKay both loved it. I loved the air conditioning. I also loved watching their faces light up when they saw the characters and Whitney was lovin the music.
Toon Town: To hot to spend too much time outdoors.
The Pirates of the Carribean and Haunted Mansion. Bart's favorite rides. The kids did well and I was so surprised that Whitney loved the Haunted Mansion and was more scared of Pirates. Go figure.
The kids fell asleep in the strollers. Wait. Whitney did, but MacKay was WIDE awake the whole first day. Here he is in Mickey's house with a chicken nugget from McDonalds.
Finally meeting Mickey.
They both LOVED him.
Oh MacKay... you love Mickey.
We are so sweaty. Here we are in Minnie's house. She wasn't home :( But we saw her just a minute later at the parade.
Here we are waiting for the parade. It was fun. We sat with the Cruzes and Whitney and MacKay loved it.
After the parade we were beat. We went on a ride or two, visited Sleeping Beauty's castle and then walked back to our hotel.
My favorite part of the day?
When we arrived back to our hotel, Whitney and MacKay were surprised that Mickey and Minnie had come to OUR hotel room and brought them stuffed animals- a Mickey and Minnie.
We showered the sweat and dirt of the park off- and fell right to sleep. MacKay and Whitney both held on tight to their new animals. Whitney slept with me and Bubba slept with Bart.
