Last Day of DC

Learning my lesson about wearing flip-flops around DC, I sported these sexy running shoes:
Yes, I looked hot.

Whitney's cracking me up in this picture:

The US Capitol on the other side:

Our second day in DC was great.  We spent the night at my cousin's (Jon & Monica Bishopp) house.  They have four adorable kids and much to Whitney's dismay... she had to go site seeing with us instead of playing with them.  Monica was a great host and even let us borrow this awesome tour-guide book.  Do you see it in my hands above?  That's right.  That will be the LAST time you see that book because just moments later, as I was checking through security... I left it behind and LOST it.  Monica was sweet about the whole thing.. but I still feel bad about it.

This was our big tour day in DC.  I wanted to go and see some of the museums.  The first was the American History Museum.  LOVED LOVED LOVED it!  They have the ORIGINAL flag that inspired our Star Spangled Banner.  Nope, you can't take pictures of it- or else I would have. It was awesome.

Next we went to the First Ladies section in the museum.  I loved it...
Here is Mary Lincoln's inaugural ball dress.  Uhm... TINY TINY TINY.  She must have been a Barbie..

And Nancy Reagan's dress... yes, she was a Barbie too..

And here's Michelle Obama's:

Here's Bart with George Washington's ACTUAL military suit.  Awesome.

Part of the Twin Towers:

The actual hat A. Lincoln was wearing on the night he was assassinated:

There's no place like home:  Dorthy's Slippers

Michael Jackson's hat:

Our kids fell asleep as we finished our tour of the American History Museum.  We attempted to go to the Natural History museum before we decided that WE were so tired.  Then we went on a LOOONNNNGGG walk up to the capitol:

We made it.. with both kids soundly asleep.  (I even had to hold an umbrella in a weird way the whole time we walked so MacKay could stay cool.)

Here's Bart:

And me:

And both of us:
Then we WALKED ALL THE WAY down to the White House.  Just as we pulled out our camera  to take a picture (we were right up to that gate by the grass), a security guard told us to put away our camera a leave.  WHAAAAAAT?
We then just walked over to take a picture a little further away.  It's all good.

These are the look-outs on top of the White House:

After we saw the White House and our kids woke up, we stopped at this little water pool by the Boy Scout Monument and fed Bubba while Whitney played.

Then it was time to go...

We made it back to the Bishopp's in time for Whitney to play with her "new cousins" as she called them...

Whit, Zack and Alexander

MacKay & Reece

Time for a bed time story..

Thank you DC...
You were great.  Loved your beauty, your green trees, your busy streets and your history.
Until next time...

p.s. What's Bart looking at?

The last picture of Bart is hilarious. Please print it and put it on the fridge. Did he pass gas while you were taking the photo and wonder if the secret service was on to him???

mike saw that I was looking at your blog and specifically wanted to see how his little buddy mackay was doing. he had fun with him in Texas!
