You Know You're In Dental School When..

As I look around our apartment, I see a few items that totally scream.. "Dental Student." I know these are the "best" days of our lives, and I'll be the first to admit that we have it pretty good. I have a job, we have food, a warm place to stay and some very nice things. There are a few special features our home has which indicate the "student" part of us. Here are 5 of them:

#1: Nightstand
This item was not just $14.95 at Walmart- but it also has the special feature of being clear. This allows you to see clothing, underwear and any other personal items that you usually keep in a dresser. It's a tight fit- but it holds a variety of belongings on the top of it.

#2: Generic vs. Name Brand Items
You know you're in dental school when almost every item in your cupboard is made by Great Value. Don't worry- after a while, your taste buds won't even be able to tell the difference.

#3: Insulation
You know you're in dental school when you've turned to plastic & fleece blankets to insulate your windows. This is NOT a wall hanging. This is actually the way Bart & I keep warm in the winter. This not only blocks out any light that might wake me up during a nap, but it keeps out the drafts. (I know you'll want to try this one.)

#4: Guest Bedroom
You know you're in dental school when your guest bed requires an air pump. We've actually upgraded since this photo was taken. We now have a twin bed that we found on the side of the road.

#5: Bunny Ears
You know you're in dental school when your T.V. is sporting an antenna that makes it look as if it could lift off into space at any moment.

That's great! The only other thing that would make it complete is Big Blue!

Are you sure this just means dental school? We have/had many of these items also. Hooray for Walmart!

Okay girl, we are not in dental school and I can still totally relate to the bunny ears, plastic see through containers (lingerie and all) and cheap food. I guess that's what we get for living on an entry level salary in Seattle. I'm happy to see we aren't the only things with these items in our house!

Oh man, what does it say about Marc and me, he's done with graduate school and we still have an air mattress as our "guest bed" in our guest room, if you can even call it that!

By the way CONGRATULATIONS!!!! We're so excited for you guys! If you can manage to deliver a week early on August 7th, you , Natalie, and me can all have babies born on the 7th. Plus then it's birthday would be 08-07-08.

You are so funny. I'm glad you took pictures of all of this. :) Some of us still have "in school" moments even when we are CLEARLY out. Give us 10 years...maybe we'll have real nightstands by then as well. :)
PS Email me about HofA. I got home too late to call you back. :)

Hilarious! We have some similar things and we aren't even in dental school yet. Maybe it has something to do with a teaching salary that is your primary income!

That is too funny - these are the best of times though aren't they? Or at least that's what everyone says we'll say when we look back on it!

Okay, I can relate to ALL of those with the exception of the clear drawers. The material (thanks wal-mart) covering our bedroom windows is for the beating down sun -- not for insulation. Without them it feels like high noon at 6 a.m. Gotta love the air mattress. At least you guys have a flat screen. That one won't come for us til probably about 5 yrs from now.

Yeah, we have lots of these decor items in our house too....we figure the entry level job is our form of graduate school!

We also like to snatch things that people put by the trash. We have gotten quite a collection....so I don't know if that makes us students, or just white trash.

Just found your blog from Kendalls. Let me tell you...we have every single one of those things. We actually don't have a TV at the moment...it broke and well, no $$ to replace it yet. Sad thing is as the loans stack up I really don't see it getting any better soon. Keep in touch!

Jason and I are laughing so hard right now! Yes, we are SO jealous of your insulation! hahaha
Now let's see some prego belly shots already!
