Chatelaines

When I was in high school, I was on my high school dance team: The Kentridge Chatelaines. Basically, I loved just about everything about this team. That includes the pom pons, the leg warmers, the spandex, the cowboy hats, the sequins, the 8-hour-long practices (okay maybe not), the competitions, the performances... everything! I was a true Chatelaine- as were 3 of my 5 sisters.
When I went to BYU, I would occasionally wear my old Chatelaine sweatshirt and green sweats. The green sweats were actually from my Junior High drill team, but they matched the white sweatshirt so well- I couldn't resist wearing them as a combination. My college roommates got a kick out of me talking about and reliving my high school glory days. I was slightly like Uncle Rico. Soon, my practice spandex and leotards became dress-up items for my college roomies to wear. They all knew about my Chatelaines, and I'm sure thought it was quite funny.
When Bart and I started dating, I knew Bart really must have liked me because he graciously watched over 8 hours of film from those Chatelaine days. Although he doesn't mind the white sweatshirt, the one item in my closet he absolutely hates are those green sweats. If he could burn any item I own, it would be those green sweats. They still have the elastic on the bottom so they are tight around my ankles. I love them. They make me feel so nostalgic when I pull them over my feet and dance around the kitchen in them. I think every past Chatelaine probably feels a little like this. Oh, sweet memories.

The other day, I got a present from my dear friend, Anne June Packer. We became friends our Freshman year at BYU- and had the best college experience. Anne is the sweetest person I know. So complimentary, kind, amazing, funny, silly, friendly, happy, positive, Christlike, down-to-earth, and a truly charitable woman. We have so many fun memories together. (As do all of our college roomies!) She has been getting a kick out of my Chatelaine gear for many years now.

When I opened this present, I couldn't contain my excitement! I was laughing and giggling and so happy. I think this has got to be one of the cutest things in the whole world. Anne sent me a little Chatelaine white sweatshirt and a pair of green sweats for Whitney. They are size 18 mo... and I can hardly wait for the day when I can put these on my little peanut. I told Bart that one day, when he comes home, little Whitney and I will be sitting on the couch in our Chatelaine sweats watching Mommy's videos and learning routines. He just smiled and said, "Those are pretty cute."

Thanks Anne June! We LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE our sweats! Watch for the post when she's wearing them.. it will be here before you know it!

That's awesome! I remember you saying something about one of your dance videos you showed to your school kids that you fall down in...I think you need to find a way to post that on the blog. :)

So I meant to comment when I read this the other day but my kids interrupted me, so sorry for the delay. I was cracking up at this. It really was true love for Bart to watch 8 hours of dance videos, but oh yeah, so did your 5th graders! I can't wait to see a video and you and Whitney doing Thriller!

Awwwwwhhh what a nice post, Krista Bunny. I can't wait to see you and Whitney dressed in matching sweats dancing around. I'm sorry I'm perpetuating the green sweatpant tradition, Bart... I just couldn't help it. Meg Cruze, I love your comment. I laughed out loud. Just remember all you chats, athletes wear "sports bras" and dancers wear "jog bras."
